Position Locators Using XY Guidelines

Once the Quuppa system is physically installed, the first step in deploying the project in the QSP is to position the Locators. It is very important that the system knows the exact position of the Locators so that it can accurately calculate the location of tracked items based on these measurements. The accuracy of the positioning measurements given to the QSP will directly affect the tracking results later.

The QSP offers multiple tools for positioning the Locators. This instruction will cover how to position the Locators using the XY Guidelines tool. The XY Guidelines tool is good for deployment environments where you only have walls and no clear reference points in the map to use for positioning the Locators.

  1. Open the project in the QSP.
  2. Select the Locator that you want to position (using either the map view or the object tree).
  3. Measure the height from the floor to the center of the Locator and input the measured value for the Z coordinate in the panel on the right.

Tip: We recommend that you use a laser measurement tool for taking the measurements. It will be much easier and give you more accurate results.
  4. Choose two reference points which are precisely to the left, right, up or down, relative to the Locator (they should be at 90 degree angles from each other). E.g. in the image below, the direction of the reference point 1 is up and the direction of reference point 2 is left.
  5. Measure the distance from directly under the Locator to the first reference point.
Tip: Please use appropriate tools to make sure you are measuring accurately from the centre of the Locator and directly to the left, right, up or down relative to the Locator. For example, a laser alignment tool can be very useful.
  6. Add the first guideline in QSP by opening the Planning menu in the menu bar at the top and selecting Add Guideline and the direction of the reference point that you are entering. In the window that opens, input the measurement and a red dotted line will appear in the map view to show the added guideline.

  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the second reference point.
  8. Move the Locator by dragging it to the correct position using the guidelines. The ends of the reference points should match the reference points you chose in the background image.

  9. Once you know the exact position of the Locator, lock the position in the Location section of the panel on the right by clicking the lock icon next to the Coordinates heading.

Tip: If you cannot see the coordinates options in the panel on the right, make sure you have the Locator selected and the Planning tab open in the panel on the right.
  10. Repeat for all of the Locators.
