Additional Instructions for Mac-users

When opening the Quuppa apps for Mac for the first time, you will most likely get an alert:

“QuuppaXXXXXX.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

This happens because, by default, Mac OS X security only allows the apps that are downloaded from the Mac App Store (such as iTunes) or from Mac certified developers. To run the Quuppa apps, do the following:
  1. Go to the Apple menu icon, and choose System Preferences.
  2. Under System Preferences, choose Security & Privacy.
  3. Select the General tab.
  4. Change the Allow apps downloaded from: option to Anywhere. This needs authentication from an administrator. To do that, click on the lock icon next to Click the lock to make changes. That should open a dialog box asking you to enter your password. If you have not set your password, just leave it blank, and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.
  5. Now, select the Anywhere radio button. Once you choose that, it should open up another dialog box. Just choose Allow From Anywhere.
Note: Can't find the Anywhere option?

The Security & Privacy section of System Preferences may present you with only two settings for the types of apps you allow to run: ones from the App Store, or ones from the App Store or identified developers. But there is a third, hidden option: Allow apps from anywhere.

To reveal the third option Anywhere, open the Terminal app and enter the following:

    sudo spctl --master-disable

Now press Return, and you will be asked to enter your password. Once that's done, open System Preferences (if it's already open, you'll need to quit it and restart to see the new option) and go to the Security & Privacy section.

A new, third option will have appeared allowing you to Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere. You'll have to click the padlock icon to make changes to the settings.

If you share your Mac with someone else it might be wise to get rid of the Anywhere option. To hide it again, you'll need to go to Terminal again, and this time type:

    sudo spctl --master-enable

  6. Open the Quuppa apps that you wish to run. Instead of the error message, now it will give you a warning telling you that this app is downloaded from the internet and asking would you still like to open it. Just click Open, and it should let you run the apps without any error.
  7. After you have opened the apps for the first time, they are identified as safe and you can change the security settings back, in order to keep your Mac secure.
